May 31, 2013 - CoActiv Medical (Ridgefield, CT) announced that Ed Heere, president, CEO and founder of the company, passed away of cancer on May 16, 2013.
At the helm of the rapidly growing picture archive and communications systems (PACS) and medical image management and archiving company, Ed Heere helped push the boundaries of technology. In the process, he proved that small companies could become true leaders in their field and helped to bring leading edge imaging capabilities to medical facilities of every size for the benefit of patient care.
Always in the forefront of the industry, CoActiv realized many innovations under Ed’s leadership The company was among the first to offer a true open-standards web-based PACS, cloud-based offsite archiving and to utilize these technologies to provide anytime, anywhere image viewing well before it became the norm. CoActiv was also an innovator in its support of viewing and storage of new imaging modalities as they were introduced. More recently, the company was one of the first to enable image communication on mobile devices, a capability just now entering the mainstream.
Going forward, company leadership intends to maintain Ed’s vision and dedication to advanced technology as the company continues to expand. Ed removed himself from the management of CoActiv’s day to day operations some time ago. Many of these responsibilities were assumed by Frank Baker, General Manager for CoActiv who will maintain this leadership role.
