UNC Health Names New Chief of Radiology Division of Thoracic Imaging

Todd Hazelton, MD, has been named chief of the Department of Radiology’s Division of Thoracic Imaging. He joins the department from the University of South Florida where he most recently served as chair of the Department of Radiology.

Dr Hazelton received his Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of South Florida in 1985 before earning his Medical Degree from there in 1993. He completed his diagnostic radiology residency at the University of South Florida College of Medicine & Affiliated Hospitals. He then continued his studies at the University of Colorado in Denver, completing his Fellowship in thoracic imaging in 1998. 

After completing fellowship training, Hazelton accepted a position as an attending thoracic radiologist and assistant professor at the H Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute at the University of South Florida. He remained at USF for more than two decades. During that time, he held multiple positions, including joint appointment as assistant professor of interdisciplinary oncology, associate professor, and then professor of radiology. In 2008, he Drt Hazelton was appointed chair of the Department of Radiology at the University of South Florida.

Hazelton has written multiple articles for peer-reviewed journals and has been a corporate author as a National Lung Screen Trial research team member. He has received numerous honors and awards throughout his professional and academic career. He has over 20 years of experience training medical students and residents.
