Season of Opportunities
It promises to be a busy and exciting autumn at Applied Radiology as we reopen submissions for one of our most popular departments and offer a new opportunity for radiology residents to take their education to the next level.
Radiology Cases Are Back
First, I am pleased to report that after a two-year hiatus, we have reopened acceptance of Radiological Case reports. Radiological Cases are among our most popular features, and our team has worked hard to streamline our review process to decrease the time from submission to publication. These cases will now undergo peer review by the new Radiological Cases Review Team under the direction of Kristin K Porter, MD, PhD, our associate editor for radiological cases. Dr Porter has recruited the following individuals to be part of the team:
Scott A Grumley, MD (University of Alabama); Malak Itani, MD (Washington University in St Louis, Missouri); Anand Narayan MD, PhD (University of Wisconsin); Onur Şimşek, MD (Dr AY Ankara Oncology Training and Research Hospital in Ankara, Turkey); and Elizabeth J Snyder, MD (Vanderbilt University). Of note, Dr Şimşek is the second radiology resident and second international member of the Applied Radiology team.
Leaders Wanted
I am also thrilled to share another exciting opportunity for radiology residents. Thanks to the generous support of Bracco Diagnostics, Inc, we are launching a new program, “Leaders on the Horizon.” This initiative is open to qualified radiology residents in the US, and our goal is to further support their radiology education through opportunities to refine their research and writing skills.
Eligible residents are invited to submit a clinical research paper on any topic related to magnetic resonance imaging. These will undergo review by an expert panel of radiologists. Members of the panel are: Lorna Browne, MD (Children’s Hospital Colorado); Christopher Comstock, MD (Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center); Mark DeLano, MD, FACR (Michigan State University); Paul Finn, MD (University of California, Los Angeles Health); Alessandro Furlan, MD (Presbyterian University Hospital); Christine Glastonbury, MBBS (University of California, San Francisco); Sarah Kamel, MD (Thomas Jefferson University); Ryan Lee, MD, MBA (Einstein Healthcare Network); Mahmud Mossa-Basha, MD (University of North Carolina); Neil Rofsky, MD (University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center); and Frank Shellock, PhD, FACR, FACC, FISMRM (University of Southern California). We extend our gratitude to the panel members for lending their time and expertise to this important initiative.
The residents authoring the top five papers will receive a monetary stipend to support their education, while the authors of the top two papers will also be offered the opportunity to further their education and network with key leaders by attending the 108th annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America, in Chicago, Illinois, November 27-December 1, 2022.
The two residents authoring the top papers will also be honored at a reception during the RSNA annual meeting and we will publish the top five papers in a special supplement to Applied Radiology in early 2023. The deadline for submissions is Oct. 3, 2022. Details and instructions can be accessed at.appliedradiology.com/leaders.
“Programs like this are important components of a resident’s education and Applied Radiology is thrilled to be able to spearhead this opportunity for young residents to not only be published, but to also win an opportunity to attend RSNA,” said Kieran N Anderson, vice president and group publisher of Anderson Publishing.
Folks, send us your great cases. Residents, submit your research papers. We’re standing by!
