National Decision Support Company expands decision support integration with Epic

By Staff News Brief

The National Decision Support Company (NDSC), a provider of clinical decision support software that delivers Appropriate Use Criteria recommendations for the ordering of diagnostic imaging exams, has announced that it has expanded the capabilities of CareSelect™ Imaging and CareSelect™ Platform through its integration with the enterprise electronic health record (EHR) systems from Epic Systems, a leading healthcare information technology systems provider.

The CareSelect Platform enables organizations to deliver a wide range of decision support solutions through a single, dynamically data populated rule in Epic. Content sets now provide coverage for imaging, laboratory tests, procedure and blood management. All content is sourced from nationally-recognized medical specialty societies and delivered through the CareSelect Platform.

Through the integration, Epic customers never leave their native EHR experience, according to NDSC. Decision support is triggered in provider workflows that include such activities as placing an order or admitting a patient. All interactions with the decision support session are recorded and can be accessed through the NDSC tools, EHR reporting tools or published to external applications. These tools and related data elements are also leveraged to take advantage of Epic-native Cogito reporting tools such as Clarity, Reporting Workbench, Radar and BPA Cube.

Earlier this year, NDSC and the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI) entered into an agreement to make the SNMMI Imaging Appropriate Use Criteria (AUC) available.  The SNMMI AUC join NDSC’s foundational criteria set delivered through CareSelect Imaging. CareSelect Imaging already contains AUC sets from the American College of Radiology (ACR Select), the American College of Cardiology, and the National Comprehensive Cancer Network.
