SNMMI Elects Chair, Vice Chair for Patient Advocacy Advisory Board

The Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI) has elected Jeri Francoeur of Ormond Beach, FL, to a two-year term as chair of the Patient Advocacy Advisory Board (PAAB) and Mike Crosby of San Diego, CA, to a two-year term as vice chair of the Patient Advocacy Advisory Board (PAAB).

Francoeur has served as a member of the PAAB for five years and recently served a two-year term as vice chair. Her term as chair runs from July 2022 to June 2024. She represents the Alamo Breast Cancer Foundation on the PAAB and is active with numerous other breast cancer advocacy organizations, including the Florida Breast Cancer Foundation. In addition, Francoeur has served as chair of the Medical Quality Assurance Board for the state of Florida Board of Nursing Home Administrators. She is a two-time breast cancer survivor who also lost a close friend to the disease and is a passionate advocate for breast cancer research and funding, as well as patient education on treatment options.

Mike “Bing” Crosby, Commander US Navy retired, is president of Veterans Prostate Cancer Awareness Inc., a non-profit organization focused on raising awareness and educating our nation’s heroes about the number one diagnosed non-skin cancer within the Veterans Administration System. Bing was diagnosed with prostate cancer in October 2015. He advocated for his own care and eventually was able to receive prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) imaging, which has now been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration. This highly precise imaging drastically changed his cancer treatment plan, and he credits it with saving his life. Crosby holds a Master of Science degree in systems management from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles and is a 1983 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, with a bachelor’s in applied science. He also is a graduate of the Allied Air Forces Central Europe’s Tactical Leadership Program as well as the U.S. Navy Fighter Weapons School, TOPGUN.

The SNMMI PAAB is composed of representatives from 15 patient advocacy organizations across multiple disease types, including breast cancer, prostate cancer, lung disease, thyroid cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, heart disease, and others. Its purpose is to provide the SNMMI with a patient perspective for its activities and to engage and educate the patient community on the expanding role of nuclear medicine and molecular imaging in diagnosing and treating disease.
