SCCT announces Gold Medal Award recipients
The Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (SCCT) named two of its founders as the 2015 Gold Medal Award recipients during its 10th annual scientific meeting held in July in Las Vegas. The awards were presented to Stephan Achenbach, M.D., a founding member of SCCT and the organization’s first president, and to Daniel S. Berman, M.D., also a founding member and its third president.
Dr. Achenbach is chairman of the department of cardiology and professor of medicine at the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg Medical School in Erlangen, Germany. He has been actively involved in research and clinical applications of CT as a cardiac imaging tool since 1993, and performed the first non-invasive angiograms of coronary artieries using electron beam CT in January 1994.
Dr. Berman is chief of cardiac imaging and nuclear cardiology at the Cedars-Sinai Heart Institute in Los Angeles, a professor of imaging and medicine at Cedars-Sinai, and a professor of medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. Dr. Berman’s career has been dedicated to clinical research in developing, validating, applying and assessing noninvasive cardiac imaging methods.
Inaugurated this year, the Gold Medal Award is the society’s highest honor and recognizes outstanding leaders who have made landmark contributions to the field of cardiovascular CT and to SCCT.
