Korean Society of Radiology President Awarded Honorary ARRS Membership

At the 2023 ARRS Annual Meeting in Honolulu, HI, Jeong Min Lee, President of the Korean Society of Radiology (KSR) and professor of radiology at South Korea’s Seoul National University Hospital received an Honorary Membership in ARRS.

As per Section 6 of the ARRS bylaws, honorary members of the ARRS shall be those who have rendered valuable service to the science of radiology or to the society. ARRS Honorary Membership must be awarded upon recommendation and approval of the ARRS Executive Council. Honorary members shall be eligible to participate in all activities of the society, save for holding elective office and voting.

Professor Jeong Min Lee is a professor in the radiology department at Seoul National University Hospital in South Korea. President of the Korean Society of Radiology, he has also chaired the education committee for the Korean Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine. Having published more than 470 scientific articles in international journals, including some 60 contributions to ARRS’ own American Journal of Roentgenology (AJR), Lee is on the editorial board of several publications, such as Radiology, Korean Journal of Radiology, Cancer Imaging, and Liver Cancer. In addition to his ARRS Honorary Membership, Professor Lee has received honorary fellowship in the European Society of Gastrointestinal and Abdominal Radiology and International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine. He remains a formal member of both the Korean Academy of Science and Technology and National Academy of Medicine of Korea. Professor Lee’s main scientific interests include MR imaging and diagnosis of hepatobiliary and pancreatic diseases, multiparametric MRI for oncologic diseases, MR elastography, and image-guided tumor ablation. He has also authored influential papers regarding biliary cancer diagnoses, dual-energy CT and functional MRI for oncologic diseases, as well as radiofrequency tumor ablation for liver cancers.

The mission of ARRS’ Global Partner Society (GPS) Program is to build long-standing relationships with key leaders and organizations in the worldwide imaging community—increasing awareness of our society’s services in specific nations, while raising the stature of Global Partner Societies among ARRS members. Every year, the ARRS Annual Meeting Global Exchange incorporates one partner society into the educational and social fabric of our meeting. ARRS members then reciprocate at the partner society’s meeting that same year.

The Korean Society of Radiology is the GPS partner being featured at the 2023 ARRS Annual Meeting. Established in 1945, KSR remains the official society representing all physicians of Korea working in the field of radiology. With a membership of more than 3,000 practicing imaging professionals, KSR also publishes two scholarly journals: the Korean Journal of Radiology and Journal of the Korean Society of Radiology. The 2023 ARRS Global Exchange Featuring KSR, “Changing Paradigms in Tumor Response Assessment,” will be the latest in a very long succession of successful educational partnerships between the Americans and South Koreans.
