SIR names new president

Alan H. Matsumoto, M.D., an interventional radiologist and professor and chair of the department of radiology and medical imaging at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, was officially named president of the Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR) during its annual meeting in Atlanta earlier this month. The society represents more than 5,600 interventional radiologists, scientists and allied health professionals who perform or are associated with image-guided minimally invasive treatments.

“The main focal points of my presidency will be advancing a better understanding of interventional radiology's limitless potential and its positive impact on patient care and implementing the new IR residency., who will represent the society’s more than 5, 600 doctors, scientists and allied health professionals dedicated to improving health care through image-guided minimally invasive treatments. I will encourage interventional radiologists to demonstrate their vision to heal by partnering within health systems to provide comprehensive clinical care,” said Matsumoto.
